| Living on the water was a must for Jim and Pam Parker when looking for a new place to live. It was time to make a lifestyle change and the couple decided in order to simplify their lives they wanted to downsize from their spacious home into a smaller location with less maintenance and upkeep. It only took one tour of a quaint two-bedroom condominium in North Padre Island for the Parkers to decide that they had found the perfect new home. “The condo allows us access to two of our favorite things - water and fires in the fireplace,” Pam said. “It was smaller than our home, but open and airy - comfortable.” The Parkers bought the condominium last year with the intention of remodeling it and moving in to it after selling their home. The remodeling took four months to complete. During that time, the Parkers began the process of selecting new furniture. Carol Chandler at Island Living, located at 14330 S. Padre Island (across from Whataburger), helped the Parkers furnish and accessorize their home. The Parkers were moving from a large home and needed condo size furniture. Because the couple spends as much time as possible with their grandchildren, the furniture needed both to look good and be durable. “We wanted neutral colors with some reds and golds mixed in,” Pam said. “I wanted it beachy, but not overwhelmingly beachy - classy beachy. We used tropical designs and added tweed fabric to tone things down.” Earthy colors within the rooms compliment the fabulous waterfront views of the canal seen from the living room. While the rooms themselves are not that large, the enormous windows and open floor plan makes the room feel spacious. With emphasis on keeping things low maintenance, the Parkers tiled the floors and used bamboozle rugs for accents. Silk flowers and trees, no watering necessary, add to the decor to make the perfect waterfront living space. |
