May 9, 2008 - May 11, 2008 - Corpus Christi, Texas - The U.S. Wind & Water Open (USWWO) is coming to the breezy shores of Corpus Christi, Texas. The Open kicks off on Friday, May 9, 2008 and continues until Sunday, May 11, 2008. Formerly known as the Velocity Games, the USWWO will feature world-class competition in hosting the U.S. Windsurfing Regatta, the U.S. Kiteboarding Open, and the first annual USWWO 5K run. The event organizer, Epic Sports & Entertainment LP, announced that the event will kick off on Friday, May 9 with competitions, an outdoor expo, live music, food and fun on the sands of the newly renovated McGee Beach in beautiful downtown Corpus Christi. The events offer a chance for competitors to earn a national title, as well as nearly $10,000 in cash and prizes, and draws athletes from as far away as Hawaii, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Germany, and France. The Windsurfing Regatta will offer a $2500 purse as well as a $1000 Speed Challenge. The Kiteboarding Open will have a $2500 purse, and the 5K run will offer $1200.

AIA Sandcastle Competition | Featured Texas Gulf Coast Events
May 31, 2008 - Galveston, Texas - AIA Sandcastle Competition.What kind of beach castle would an architect build? Spectators find out at the AIA Sandcastle Competition. The 80-some competing teams consist of architects, designers, engineers, and contractors. Most contests prohibit mechanical assistance, but here the sponsor (the Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects) allows elaborate forms, mechanized tampers, and water-pumping systems. All of which can make the construction process as entertaining as the finished products. The event takes place at East Beach on the tip of Galveston Island.
